The
Island of Jersey is situated 22 kilometres off the north-west coast of
France and 135 kilometres from the English coast. Jersey is the largest of
the Channel Islands with a surface area of 117 square kilometres and a
population of approximately 85,000. Jersey operates in the European time
zone. |

Constitution 体制
The Island has its own parliament, called the States of Jersey, which comprises
53 elected members. Jersey also has its own system of local administration,
fiscal and legal systems, and courts of law.
Jersey is neither part of the United Kingdom nor a colony. The Island has allegiance to the British Crown, but is not represented in the United Kingdom Parliament, whose Acts extend to Jersey only if the Island expressly agrees that they should do so. The United Kingdom is responsible for the Island's defence and international relations.

Parishes パリッシュ
Jersey is divided into 12 parishes, all with access to the sea. Each parish is
presided over by the elected head of parish, the Connetable, on issues relating
to civil matters and by the Rector on issues relating to ecclesiastical affairs.
ジャージー島はパリッシュと呼ばれる12の郡から成っており、どの郡もみな海に面しています。各パリッシュの民政は選出されたConnetableによって治められ、宗教関連はRectorが管轄しています。
Language 言語
The dominant language of the Island is English, although French remains the
second official language. Occasionally one can hear people speaking the local
language - J鑽riais - a Norman-French dialect.
主要言語は英語ですが、フランス語も第２の公式言語として広く使われています。一部ではノーマンフレンチの方言である土地のことば、Jerriaisも話されています。

The Island's gross domestic product (GDP) is most recently estimated as ｣1.53
